Bangalore is home to thousands of young professionals and students. Well, our dear Garden City is now turning into a Garbage City with stinking roads in all major areas and the never ending traffic. Makes this city a place you need to escape from every once in a while.

Living in this city for almost 6 Years, I’ve been around and explored the city and its neighbouring areas. So, don’t worry here I am with my top 3 picks for a weekend getaway from this city. All these places are beautiful and the perfect break from the city life. So if you love watching the sunrise and chasing the sunsets, Here are my top 3 trekking destination near Bangalore.

Savandurga:

This is among the largest monolith hill in Asia. Savandurga is a treat to eyes of the beholder. This is an intermediate level trek, so be prepared before you visit it. It is 48 km away from Bangalore. Ideally you must reach the base before sunrise to catch the magnificent sunrise with the view. It is quite a steep climb and the rocky terrain might hinder your pace. The hill rises 1226m above sea level. Enjoy the ancient Kempe Gowda fort on the trek and the beautiful rocks and scarce plantation. It is a one of a kind experience. After reaching the top the breathtaking view will be so worth it. You can find a sweet spot to just lay there and see the sunrise, while the sky bursts into happy colours.

Note: Please carry snacks that you can have on the way. Savandurga is placed in a secluded area and so there are no restaurants or eateries around.

Kunti Betta:

With a cocktail of terrains this trek will shower you with diversity. An all in one experience, you shouldn’t miss this one. The variety in the topography will leave you in awe of this place. It is a thrilling overnight trek that you can make on a weekend 70 kms away from Bangalore. The perfect blend of adventure and thrill this trip makes the perfect adrenaline pumping experience for you. After the completion of the trek you will witness the stunning view of the Thonoor Lake and trust me you will forget about your worries. I was at a loss of words when for the first few minutes. An experience I highly recommend you to have and you will not regret it.

Skandagiri:

This trek has a bias entry on this list and a very special reason to be on the list. I will tell you all about it later, first I’ll tell you why Skandagiri. Close your eyes and visualize yourself floating with the clouds while the sunrises behind your back. How do you feel? This is how the view from Skandagiri trek looks like. A moderately easy trek, you will be crossing 2 caves on the way, which are fantabulous! Explorers planning for an adventure, this is the place to be. Perfect for an overnight trek, this trek now opens only after 3 am in the night. A maximum of 3 km of hike is what makes it wonderful, this trek is a cakewalk for experienced trekkers.

Coming back to the story, of how this ended up to my list of top 3. It was a few years ago when I finally summed up the guts to go on a solo trek with a company called Escape to Explore. My bus was scheduled at 12:30 am to Anthargange. The road was empty and after waiting for almost 30 minutes I called the helpline number and complained about the delay of the bus. They told me that the trip was cancelled. I was taken aback by a shock since I lived in the outskirts of Bangalore and had taken a leave from my college hostel. I was so enraged I started asking them to fix me on some other trek available for that night, determined to go somewhere. They finally booked a seat on the Skandagiri Trek and that’s how I saw Skandagiri!

With this we come to the end of this list but do not worry here are some honourable mention to the places you should go to:

Antargange trek with cave exploration

Narayangiri the perfect spot for Kayaking and camping

Ramnagara the quaint little village where “Sholay” the classic hindi movie was shot.

Nandi Hill this famous spot and Tipu Sultan’s summer palace make an easy and beautiful trek for a fulfilled Sunday.
