Whether you're vegetarian because of your lifestyle choices or because of your upbringing, you know it's hard to come by fine dine restaurants that serve up wholesome, dishes that are worth your while. When I'd switched to vegetarianism for three years, I realized that there isn't much apart from paneer and the usual suspects. But after dining at Phurr recently, I believe there's a refreshing air of hope for vegetarians and vegans in Bangalore.
Phurr is a huge space that has people queuing up seven days a week. I finally got around to trying this restaurant and realize why people keep coming back for more. The interiors are spacious and colorful. Phurr has a bird theme which can be seen across all interiors. There are quirky bird statues to funky tiles that all add to the eclectic nature of Phurr.
The menu is detailed and calls out the specials, mocktails, desserts and more that are spread across world cuisine. Needless to say, all their dishes are sought after. The extensive menu offers something for everyone, which makes dining here with family or large groups of friends easy.
After trying out all their favourites recommended by the chef, I have to say I enjoyed everything on the menu which was truly mind-blowing. Highlighting some dishes that stood out to me, though it’s tough to have favourites as they’re all lovely!
-Literally all of their mocktails - from charcoal infused to melon and guava milkshake, you have to try one of each. They combine fruits, spices and more to bring together interesting options that range from Khala Khata flavours to shots of berry depending on your palate, you’ll have much to choose from. Being a family-oriented dining spot, there are no cocktails or alcohol served here. But you won’t miss it either.
-The Peri Peri Pineapple - brings the nostalgia of homely snacks in a fine dine environment
-The mushroom starter - combines an unlikely pairing of mushroom and pesto sauce in a delightful dish that was tough to out down. I honestly couldn’t stop devouring the mushroom which was made so well, it felt like soft kebabs coated in delicious fat.
-The Khao Suey - I love oriental cuisine and went for this. Their Thai curries and other oriental options are also stellar and can be shared as well.
-The Indian breads and gravies - reminded me of authentic Punjabi dishes served in Dhabas but with a refined twist. The smoky flavours that add a distinguishing flavour to tandoor-inspired dishes, the soft breads that are flavoured with Indian spices all come together to make the perfect Indian mains that are fulfilling.
-Malaiyo and Baklava - don't miss out in these fabulous dishes for dessert that are put together spectacularly.
The portions at Phurr are large and the plating is fun. It's truly a dining experience that engages all your senses. The bird-theme is playfully integrated into every minor detail as well. Starters served in bird-houses, egg-shaped plates to birds nests that hold your bill. It's a restaurant that will make you enjoy your meal and want to come back for more.
The restaurant serves up high quality ingredients that bring world cuisine to the choosy, vegetarian palate. The menu goes well beyond the usual choices and makes you remind yourself that you are in fact eating vegetarian food. A brilliant amalgamation of flavour, cuisines and technique, Phurr is revolutionizing the restaurant scene with its vegetarian menu, creative combinations and eclectic dishes.
As the restaurant gets crowded, it’s best to make reservations ahead of time. Seating options range from couple-seating to large groups. There is also an open-bar type set up where you can even watch ‘bartenders’ shake up mocktails. The service and plating is impeccable as the staff are well aware of their much-loved menu that has people thronging to Phurr. So you’re guaranteed to have a wonderful time, each time you dine here!
