Mysore is the oldest city of Karnataka and the Royal Seat of power during the british period, which was the capital city of the wodeyar kingdom.
Mysore is a Calm and Laid back city compared to the busy life of Bangalore. Mysore is also known as the Heritage city.
We Started off From Bangalore to Mysore in Train, @ 6.30 , The ticket price was 60 person , takes 2.15hrs to reach mysore , unlike buses which usually takes longer time. We used Uber/Ola to commute around the city as we are a group of 3 .
This trip is very special to me , as its my first time i stayed in hostel . I really loved the ambiance and the crowd in the hostel
The ground floor of Mansion , is the reception and it also has the Common dining room and Bunk beds for men and bunk bed for ladies is on the top floor. The top floor also has separate rooms as well as bunk beds along with beautiful artwork.
We checked into the hostel and wanted have breakfast , to our surprise the Famous Mylari Dose was just 500 meters from the Mansion, Who would have guessed it :)
After Breakfast , we went to have Coffee , as mylari does not serve coffee which is surprising as most of the south indian dosa hotels always serves coffee. So we wanted to see Lalith mahal and have coffee as well, One can enter lalith mahal as a guest and have coffee and biscuits, cost around 100 person with Coffee and biscuits
Lalith Mahal is a heritage hotel , on a expensive side and has beautiful lawns and authentic and artistic dining area , Few places in the Lalith Mahal is only allowed to the guests of the hotel not for public. Only Mobile photos are allowed .
Once Lalith Mahal was done , we booked a cab to Mysore Palace we knew it would be crowded as it was a weekend , Like we expected we saw a huge crowd right in front of the ticket counter. We can take DSLR to mysore palace , and No shoes or Chappals allowed.
Mysore palace is the seat of power of the maharajas , it is the most popular tourist spots in India.
After we completed the palace tour , we headed to St. Philomena church its one of the most oldest church in Karnataka.
After a brief visit to the church , we headed back to the hostel for rest, we were completely tired due continuously walking around the palace.
We heard the dasara exhibition is still going on , hence we thought we pay a visit. There were lots of handicrafts and hand made items for sale , these exihibition also had adventure rides , different varieties of street foods.
After the exhibition, we wanted to try out the famous Usman dry gobi ,Its a famous eatery in mysore one has to try other than Mylari. The taste lives upto the expectations.
We ended our day with the dry gobi as we were completely tired.
Day 2 , we wanted to keep things simple by visiting the temple , and Places around Chamundi hills , but unfortunately to our bad luck , we got to that the temple was really crowded and it would be impossible to cover other places.
First thing first we went to have Breakfast at Mahesh prasad, very pocket friendly south indian hotel.
After breakfast we took some time and headed to the Sand Museum which has many important monuments and dignitaries as display, the entry fee for the musuem is 40rs
Then we visited the Sea Shell museum , which was within 500metres from Sand Musuem and entry cost is 50rs
After we completed both the museum, we wanted to have a authentic south indian meals , and we visited Anima madhava Bhavan it costed us 170 per meal , but i really felt it was a big let down
One of the Hidden treasures of Mysore eatery is Haalkhova Iyengar , Mysore is famous for its Mysore Pak , and everyone visits Guru Sweets for the same , but there is a hidden gem , its halkhova Iyengar , who sells the sweets in the house, Each slab cost us 60rs , which had 6 pieces.
Once we finished picking up the mysore pak , we headed to SGS Ashrama which is famous for its Shuka Vana , it is the rehabilation center for the birds as well as the hanuman temple.
Most of the birds are rehabilated , and one can get photos with them as well, it was around 150/pic and they charged us approx 300rs for digital version.
I really feel they are fed well and taken care , coz i could see caretakers cleaning their cages and providing food on regular basis, well i might be wrong too but i enjoyed visiting the place as i could see the birds in close proximity.
Like is said before , Mysore offers a lot for travellers and one cannot complete the entire mysore in a day or two , we atleast need 5 days to complete the entire city.
Places must visit ( Which we missed though)
Chamundi Hills
Brundavan gardens, Esp the Light and sound display in evening
Venugopalswamy Temple
Mysore Zoo (Takes a day)
Devraja Market
Nanjangud
Srirangpatna
I have written my experience in this blog , i really hope this helps everyone to plan your trip.
