About 200 musical instruments are part of this museum's massive collection. These are either owned or played by the Indian musical legends. Other artefacts include costumes of artists, gramophones, and musical archives. The museum also talks about the origins of the instruments along with the making, and playing techniques.

Exhibitions are held at the museum at regular intervals. The exhibit named ‘Songs of Struggle’ is one of the best among all. The highlight of the exhibit is more than 35 versions of ‘Vande Mataram’.

The other exhibition to notice is Ravi Shankar Centennial Exhibition which features his audio-visual recordings, costumes, musical instruments, awards and rare photographs.
