We started from Esplanade, Kolkata at around 7 am. We boarded the WBTC AC bus and passed by Behala, Diamond Harbour, Kakdwip, Namkhana and finally reached Bakkhali around noon. We checked into the WBTDC Bakkhali Tourist Lodge. They presented us with a gift and the room was fabulous. The resort was barely 500m from the sea beach. It was surrounded with greeneries all around. After having a delicious fish lunch we headed for the sea beach. Unfortunately it was low tide time and the sea had retreated back. So we started our Sightseeing.
First spot -
It's a large spread of fish breeding and cultivation under the fisheries department of WB. There are few lodges here around the fish ponds. The beach is a long walk amidst lush geeen mangroves. The beach is not much explored yet but the loneliness attracts you. Stand still and enjoy the pleasant sea breeze.
Second Spot -
We saw large boats full of fishes of various size. Nothing much to see here except fishes.
Third Spot -
Also known as Kargil sea beach. Again a lonely sea beach where you can connect to yourself. Large stretches of sea and pleasant sea breeze. Lush green mangroves at the backdrop adds to the beauty.
Fourth Spot -
Here you get to see 12 huge windmills although non-functional now. We saw the old broken bungalow of Sir Henry. This beach is also so beautiful yet unexplored. You can enjoy the peaceful atmosphere.
That ends the sightseeing for day 1.
Then we headed for the Bakkhali Sea beach again and yes now the sea was in its elements. We tasted some fish fry on the beach. There are ample of stalls serving hot sea fish plates. We sat on the chairs for few hours and enjoyed the sea breeze at the cost of Rs 10 per hour.
We ended the day with a delicious dinner.
We started the day early to witness the Sunrise. It was a good experience.
Then after having breakfast we headed towards Jambu Dweep, an isolated Island in the middle of the sea. Nobody is allowed to stepdown on this island. The boat takes you around the island and it took us around 2 hours for the entire trip.
Next destination -
We crossed the Mousuni river and it is an isolated unexplored island just beside the Sagar Island. We got to know the Island experienced electricity just two years back. It is full of green paddy lands, ponds and is a typical village. It soothes your eyes as you proceed towards the beach. There are many tents and camps for nightstay. The beach is basically at the junction of Hooghly river and Bay of Bengal. We enjoyed the serenity of the island and had a fish lunch. We explore the island for 1 hour and finally headed towards home.
We boarded the SBSTC bus from Namkhana and headed towards Esplanade, Kolkata.
This was a weekend offbeat trip.
