Breathtaking drive through Grossglockener Alpine road in Austria

Few places just make such a place in your heart and on your mind that you cannot forget these breathtaking moments and our drive thtough the Grossglockner high alpine road was definitely one of them.

Grossglockner was a highlight of our 7 day road trip which began from The Netherlands from where we drove all the way to Zell am see in Austria.

We started our exciting drive to the Grossglockner from the beautiful town of Zell am see and it was a 45 km drive through the beautiful Austrian alps.

The Grossglockner High Alpine Road or Grossglockner Hochalpenstrasse (in German) is the highest surfaced mountain pass in Austria.

The road has been named on the highest mountain of Austria Grossglockner (3798m)

This road has about 37 u-pin bends and although i enjoyed the drive to the core, my husband could not enjoy as much because one has to really focus on the roads with its steep turns and cannot afford to lose himself in the beauty of these Alps.

There are many places to stop over as you drive and enjoy the mesmerising views. We were here in the second week of May, and were lucky to even experience some snowfall.

The final point till where you can reach by car is at 2504m at Franz josefs hohe and the views are splendid. We were not lucky enough to view the cute marmots but these are seen even while the drive through the scenic road.

The toll for this road costs about Eur 34 for a car and Eur 24 for bikes.

One comes across many racer bikes and sports cars across this stretch.

If in the Tirol region of Austria one should definitely visit Grossglockner!!
