So you are off on your great adventure down under. It’s going to be the trip of a lifetime. Obviously you want to see all the world famous sights and experience as much as possible of this vast country, but where do you start? Start by checking out some of these amazing places and choose exactly where you want to go. 1. Sydney Harbour Bridge in South East Australia is one of the most iconic sights and a must visit location for any traveller. Scale its dizzy heights with a bracing climb up the girders to the very top, where the view is just awesome. Gaze down across this buzzing city full of exciting experiences just waiting to be enjoyed and wonder at the architecture of the Sydney Opera House.
2. The Red Centre in the Northern Territories is home to the Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park where the spectacular Ayers Rock, otherwise known as Uluru stands. It has 36 sisters, smaller red-rock domes known as the Kata Tjuta or “The Olgas” and this ancient and sacred site is definitely one not to be missed.
3. Crystal Shower Falls are to be found within the Dorrigo National Park, which lies on the east coast between Sydney and Brisbane. These spectacular falls are simply breathtaking as they cascade down onto the rocky pools and the lush greenery below. This is the perfect place to explore and enjoy some of the most wondrous natural scenery of Australia and an amazing spot to view a solar eclipse, which you will be able to do in 2030.
4. The Umpherston Sinkhole at Mount Gambier just has to be seen to be believed. This gigantic sunken garden was formed from a collapsed limestone cave which left a huge sinkhole in the ground. Now flourishing with lush vegetation and listed as a heritage site it has the appearance of some secret fairy tale hideaway and is a wonderfully cool shaded place to chill out and relax during the hot weather.
5. Lake Bumbunga or the “Pink Lake” is a stunning naturally occurring pink salt water lake which can be found close to the Clare Valley in South Australia, a couple of hours drive away from the city of Adelaide. Its unusual and striking colour makes it one of the most unique and interesting sites to visit and it will certainly leave a lasting memory.
6. The Great Barrier Reef is one of the most famous and most talked about sites in Australia. The vast area of coral reef is a World Heritage Site which supports a magnificent and multi coloured array of marine and bird life. The reef can be explored by boat and there are plenty of cruises available which take visitors around the many islands which make up its 90,000 square miles.
