I felt all of these three things when I set out on my first solo adventure to Auroville: Excitement. Amazement. Pure, cold blooded fear. I had never eaten lunch on my own how was I supposed to survive a ten day journey on my own? In a city that didn’t even speak a language I understood. So I cleared my head and did the only thing it made sense doing. I boarded the plane. And didn’t look back.
The universe I realized works in funny ways. It helps you when you’re struggling. It gives you little wings of hope and bursts of inspiration just when you need it.
You know how people say everything happens for a reason? So my flight was delayed at the Pune Airport by about three hours because of fog. (Which meant I had a whole three hours to say “Andrea it’s a sign, get off the plane! This is your last chance!”) But because of that a friend managed to pick me up from the airport who otherwise wouldn’t have been able to. And so I found myself being escorted to the Chennai bus stop where I got onto one of the local non AC (look at me, being adventurous) buses to take me to Pondicherry where I would spend a day before heading to Auroville.
So, my big green backpack, my packet of gems and I set out on one of the most exhilarating, heart warming journeys of my life!
There are a million more things I could rant on about my visit here but I must stop now. Auroville will always hold a soft place in my heart for being the place which gave me the courage to have faith in people and taught me to trust my instincts no matter what.
All is not lost in the world when there is an Aurovillian to show you the way!
