The House of Happiness

The homestay is built in the traditional Mishing style of stilt huts made primarily of bamboo. And they are built in such a way so as not to lose the essence of the place. The rooms are basic, but comfortable and stunning. Please do not expect luxury here. You can stay here just in the way that the Mishing tribes lives, together with all the basic amenities. The small windows are decorated with beautiful curtains through which the sunlight streams in. the furniture too are made of bamboo giving the place an earthy and rustic feeling. There is a terrace that can serve as a lounge and you can simply hang around there.

Recently another concrete cottage has been built that consists of a spacious room with attached bathroom, king size bed, table and have a balcony where guest can sit & talk, enjoy morning & evening scenic views.

La Maison de Ananda literally means the house of happiness. The homestay is the dream venture of a Mishing man Danny and two French architects who fell in love with the place. The Rooms:

There are bamboo huts and one concrete cottage. This Bamboo cottage is designed in the Mishing traditional way know as "chang ghar" with all the essential amenities with attached bathroom and balcony. Made of bamboo, there are 5 rooms that are named after flowers - Sewali, Nahar, Champa, Ketaki, Khorika. There is also 2 more bamboo cottages and a concrete cottage.

The food:

The food needs a special mention. The family kitchen is just by the side. Known as Risong’s kitchen, they serve authentic, mouth-watering traditional Mishing dishes. You can also get the aromatic Mishing rice beer, Apong on request.

A traditional Mishing meal consists of rice, vegetables, fish and meat. The rice is cooked in a leaf called tora pat that gives it a distinct flavor. Other delicacies include pamnam fish (fish baked in banana leaf), pamnam chicken (chicken baked in banana leaf) and mamsing, a chutney of dry fish. They also serve chicken, fish and pork cooked in bamboo pipes, a traditional way of cooking. It is not only the food, but also the experience of the culture that you will get at Risong’s kitchen. But keep in mind that you have to pre-order your food here.

Location of the Homestay:

La Maison De Ananda is located in Garamur in Majuli. To reach Majuli, Jorhat is the nearest airport and railway head. From Jorhat, you have to go to Nemati Ghat from where you have to take a ferry service to Kamalabari Ghat of Majuli. It is an hour long ferry ride across the Brahmaputra.

Majuli is the cultural hub of Assam and has a lot to offer to its visitors. Majuli has almost 31 Satras or Vaishnavite monasteries where Neo-Vaishnavite philosophy is practiced. The whole island is itself beautiful with various rivulets crisscrossing it. You can also do bird watching in the numerous water bodies in Majuli. The beauty of the place is unparalleled. The nearest airport and the nearest Railway station is Jorhat. From Jorhat, take an auto or shared vehicle to Nematighat. There are regular ferry services from Nemati Ghat to Kamalabari Ghat in Majuli.

September to March are the best months to visit Majuli.
