Set forth on a mesmerizing morning road excursion to Sibsagar, the 18th-century capital of Assam's Ahom kings, whose roots as Shan animists evolved into Hinduism during their nearly 700-year rule until the 1820s. In Sibsagar, discover the captivating blend of Indian and Southeast Asian influences in their culture and architecture, as evidenced by temples with stupa-like profiles and palaces of distinct form, with the city's temple tank claiming the title of the world's largest hand-excavated reservoir. A flavorsome lunch awaits at the nearby Horu Charai tea estate.
