2020 seems to be a good year for finally executing your much-awaited travel plans! With several countries like Thailand and Malaysia offering visa-free arrival to Indians, travelling to these destinations is getting cheaper and hassle-free.
Recently joining the list is Sri Lanka. The country has announced a free visa scheme for several countries albeit for a shorter duration.
As per the recent reports, Sri Lanka will offer free visa to Indians until 30th April 2020. With a waiver of the current charges of Rs 2,400 for visa on arrival, India is a part of 49 other countries that will benefit from this scheme.
Announced by the Tourism Minister, Prasanna Ranatunga, the step has been taken to revive the tourism of the country which was severely hit by the Easter Sunday bombings. Refreshing the list of countries which were offered visa-on-arrival earlier, the Government had barred 39 countries from the earlier scheme and added more countries in the list on 1st August 2019. The list included Indian citizens being allowed to travel to Sri Lanka without a visa till 1st February 2020, which has now been extended.
India is one of the biggest contributors to Sri Lankan tourism and hence the extension of this deadline till April will allow more Indians to plan their travel. Other countries which are a part of the scheme include China, Denmark, Russia, England and Sweden.
