Those who love the great outdoors and nature have much to enjoy on a visit to Singapore and here are some of the best places for hiking here.
MacRitchie Nature Trails
Set amidst a verdant tropical rainforest backdrop of the Central Catchment Nature Reserve, the MacRitchie Nature Trails feature a trail loop of around 11 km. It’s a popular spot for both laidback treks and challenging hikes and amongst the highlights is the 25-metre-high TreeTop Walk which stretches 250 metres over the forest.
Bukit Timah Nature Reserve
Offering four walking trails, the Bukit Timah Nature Reserve has a rich ecosystem and is home to long-tailed macaques too. For those based at Tiong Bahru hotels, Singapore hiking adventures can easily be experienced at this site with trails to the summit of Bukit Timah Hill including unpaved ones that take you through a forest.
The Rail Corridor
A former railway line that linked Singapore and Malaysia, the Rail Corridor is now one of the most popular hiking trails. The central area is around 4 km in length, though, in total, the corridor spans about 24 km. Set amidst idyllic landscapes, the trail takes you past rainforests, railway bridges and sites such as the Bukit Timah Railway Station.
Chestnut Nature Park
Encompassing around 81 hectares, the Chestnut Nature Park has both biking (8.2 km) and hiking (5.6 km) trails. The country’s largest nature park, it offers much to discover for those hiking here including at its Southern Loop. It’s also a great spot for birdwatching, while one will come across enchanting lakes and streams too.
