We all travel the world for different reasons. Some travel for history, some travel for nature, some simply travel for a break from work. They say that travel inspires you to refresh yourself and live life. However, a few things can also inspire people to travel. For me, it is history, nature, culture, and FOOD.
When I travel, there are no rules with my diet. I eat whatever looks new and good to me, though in small portions. Food is such a rich experience in itself that there is no way I would cut that out. My motto while traveling is simple - ''Vacation calories don't count''.
I could not afford to miss the cheese fondue when I visited Switzerland. After all, it is the national dish of the country. CHEESE FONDUE, it sounds delicious, looks good, smells better and tastes excellent. People in the country, including tourists, love the dish so much that they don't care if the cheese is dripping down the face while eating. Well, neither did I.
BALIBOLA in Bali is a perfect place to have the first healthy meal of your day, especially if you are a vegetarian/vegan. I chose to go here for brunch so that I could heartily. Must-try dishes are - Pink mac & cheese, morning burger, swiss rosti, and tropical mango smoothie. Wow, that makes me nostalgic. Did I mention that it is one of the most Instagram worthy joints in Bali?
I had tried PUTU PIRING while strolling in Jonker street night market in Malacca. The dish is simply a steamed rice flour sweet filled with palm sugar and shredded coconut. But, the aroma and taste that it gives when consumed hot are matchless. This is by far the best sweet I have had in Southeast Asia.
KESAR DA DHABA is almost synonymous with 'good food' in Amritsar, especially for the tourists. This vegetarian restaurant is more than 100 years old. It is located in a narrow lane, which, in the evenings, is overloaded with people waiting for their turn. I waited for around 2 hours. I had the Tawa parantha (Indian bread), palak paneer (Spinach cottage cheese curry) and dal makhani (whole black lentil). The food was literally dripping with pure unsalted butter but tasted so good. The dessert, phirni (rice and milk-based sweet dish) was an unforgettable climax to my taste buds.
TEA and COFFEE tasting in a small cottage set atop a small hill at Tegallalang rice terrace in Bali was indeed a tasteful experience. Each of the 14 cups had a distinct flavor. I loved the Vanilla and Coconut coffee. Of course, one of these cups was the Kopi luwak coffee, one of the most expensive coffees in the world.
