The Indo- Myanmar Border (India – Myanmar)

The Ind0- Myanmar border is a must visit for any person to understand how a healthy relationship between two countries can result in border cross in just ₹20 to take a quick view of Burmese town Tamu. Moreh, located on the easternmost frontier of India connects the country with South Asian and South East Asian countries. Nathu La Pass (India – China)

Located at an altitude of 14,140 feet, Nathu La is a mountain pass in the Himalayan region. The pass acts as a border between the Indian state of Sikkim and Tibet Autonomous Region of China. It is one of the three open trading border posts between China and India. Take a moment to enjoy the picturesque landscapes of the area and visit the Silk Trade Route between India and China.

Dawki-Tamabil (India – Bangladesh)

Looking for a place still left to be explored by many and an international border to visit? Then, Dawki is what you are looking for. Dawki is a village that connects India with Bangladesh and is also called Asia's one of the cleanest village. The Ungmot River, which falls on the Indo- Bangladesh border, separates the two countries and is known for its Emerald coloured water.

Top things to see and do: Visit the Umngot river bridge; take a boat ride on the river; go on a road trip from Mawlynnong to Dawki; visit the Living Root Bridge at the Rewai village.

Rann of Kutch is located in the Kutch district of Gujarat. This seasonal white desert is open to the public from October to February. The desert connects India with Pakistan and this is your chance to experience the most scenic sight of white desert.

The most recently inaugurated check post at Zowkhawtar in Mizoram allows for free entry-exit between Myanmar and India. All you need to hold is a valid passport and visa to travel by road to Myanmar. Zowkhawtar is about 200kms from the state capital Aizawl.

Top things to see and do: Visit the border trade market at Sherathang; Experience the serenity of Kupup which mostly remains covered with clouds; take a spiritual tour of the Gnathang Monastery; visit the Gnathang War Memorial which was built in memory of the British soldiers who died in a war with Tibet in 1800s.

Flight cost: Round-trip fares from New Delhi start from ₹11,892 onwards. The airport nearest to Gangtok is in Bagdogra which is at the distance of 124km. From the airport, you can hire a shared taxi or a private vehicle that will get you to Gangtok in two hours. Nathu La is on Jawaharlal Nehru Road which originates from Gangtok and located at a distance of 56kms from Gangtok.

Daily budget: The cost of Nathu La tour can vary in different seasons. During the peak season from April to June and October to November, a shared vehicle would cost about ₹800 - ₹900 per person including permit fee. A reserved vehicle would cost around ₹7,500 including all permits.

Best time to visit: Nathu La is open only from Wednesday to Sunday in a week. Good time to visit is from May to October when the temperature is pleasant and bearable, but it doesn't usually snow at this time of the year.

Where to stay: Budget travellers can book a room at Gohills Orchid hostel in Gangtok for ₹699 per night and travellers looking for a luxurious stay in Gangtok can opt for Bamboo Retreat which costs ₹6,000 per night.

Jaigaon, West Bengal (India – Bhutan)

The India Bhutan border, represented by just a gate, is a border that can be crossed without a passport. Jaigaon is the town that connects these two countries and is the only entry to Bhutan via land. Indians can also cross the border, roam in Bhutan up till 5km and return. This does not require any kind of stop on any check post. So, whenever in Bengal take a short trip to Bhutan.
