We had the opportunity to explore the tea gardens, accompanied by Ninashi Mining ma'am, who shared her knowledge and passion for tea cultivation. Walking through the neatly manicured rows of tea plants, we learned about the intricate process of growing, harvesting, and processing tea leaves. It was fascinating to witness the dedication and hard work that goes into producing the tea of Mishmi Hills.
The calls of the Hollock Gibbon from the adjacent hills echoed through the valley, filling our hearts with a sense of wild wonder. Those enchanting and haunting cries seemed to harmonize with the rustling leaves, creating a captivating atmosphere that immersed us in the untamed beauty of Arunachal Pradesh. The homestay is situated approximately 7 km away from the Wakro market. The village where the homestay is nestled is called Mawai. Our journey to this delightful haven began from Roing, where we hopped onto a shared sumo that took us to Tezu. From Tezu we took another shared Sumo to Wakro.
By Air:
The nearest airport to Wakro is located at a distance of approx. 190 km in Dibrugarh. From major cities across India, you can catch a flight to Dibrugarh Airport. Once you land, it's easy to find shared cabs or taxis that will conveniently transport you to the picturesque town of Wakro.
By Rail:
For those who prefer train travel, the closest railway head to Wakro is in Tinsukia. You can reach Tinsukia by train from various cities in India. Upon arrival, you'll find an array of transportation options, including shared cabs and buses, to take you on a scenic journey to Wakro. It will take around 3.5 hours to reach Wakro from Dibrugarh.
By Road:

Obtain the necessary permits and embark on a forest walk, where you may encounter the majestic presence of the four big cats: Tiger, Leopard, Clouded Leopard, and Snow Leopard. This thrilling experience will leave wildlife enthusiasts in awe of nature's wonders. As we have stayed just one day in Wakro, we have not visited the sanctuary. However, next time we must venture into it.
Glow lake:
For avid hikers and nature lovers, the Glao or Glow Lake is a must-visit destination within the sanctuary. Set off on an exhilarating hike through dense jungle trails, immersing yourself in the raw beauty of nature. Camping by the lakeside and witnessing the Mishmi hills as the backdrop create a stunning landscape that will leave you spellbound.
Parshuram Kund:
For a spiritual experience, a visit to Parshuram Kund or Brahma Kund is highly recommended. Located on the banks of the crystal-clear and mesmerizing Lohit River, this revered religious site is just a breathtaking 20-minute drive away. Descend 150 steps to reach the Kund, where you can soak in the divinity of the surroundings while enjoying panoramic views of the enchanting Lohit River.
Namsai:
Lastly, explore the adjacent towns of Tezu and Namsai, which offer pagodas and scenic landscapes. Completing the Namsai-Wakro-Tezu circuit allows you to witness the charm of these towns, soak in their unique attractions, and create unforgettable memories along the way.
