Itβs been quite some time since we had our last road trip. We were looking for a short weekend getaway from Hyderabad. Finally we zeroed down our destination to Medak, which is situated at 80 kms away from Hyderabad. Thereafter, a gang of buddies rocked the road on their bike!
On 5th September 2015, a group of 8 friends started our journey on bike from Kondapur, Hyderabad around 6:45am. The weather was pleasant which made our journey enjoyable! We rode through Narsapur Forest, which was an amazing experience. The view of lush green forest on either side of the road was so refreshing and charming. Luckily, the condition of the road was really good. Hence, the ride was smooth. We were awed at the mesmerizing beauty of the forest. There were too many monkeys sitting and playing at the roadside. Even though we wanted to stop for a while and admire the flora and fauna around, we couldnβt afford to take the risk noticing the number of monkeys around. We just silently sailed through the forest zone admiring the beauty and inhaling the fresh air.
Right after crossing the Forest, we stopped by a small roadside shop for our breakfast. Garma garam Idli- Vada- Puri made an ideal breakfast for us!

After having our breakfast, we went to the lake near Narsapur Forest. It was a small lake surrounded by hillocks. The distant view of the lake surrounded by hillocks - from the road, while we were riding was quite alluring. I was eagerly waiting to be there! However, when we reached the lake, I was quite disappointed at the sight of its surroundings. The garbage dumped near the lake has just spoilt the beauty of the place. Overall, itβs a serene place. Had the place been maintained, it could have been a tourist hotspot.

We took several stops on our way. The greenery on either side of the road, the rural feel will soothe you for a while.

Finally, we reached Medak around 10am. Medak is a small town with number of shops and establishments around. We had already made our booking in Haritha Heritage hotel. The Hotel is situated just by the Medak Fort. From the Medak bus stop, we followed direction and rode uphill to the Medak Fort. The location of the Haritha Heritage Hotel is the best! From the top, you get to enjoy the picturesque beauty of Medak. Medak Church was visible from the Verandah of the Hotel. There are only 4 rooms in the Hotel. Since, we were a group of 8; the entire hotel belonged to us! We had a gala time there. The Hotel also has a decent restaurant.

Having done with our lunch, we immediately started exploring Medak. Our first destination was the Medak Fort itself.
The Medak Fort has historical significance. It was built during the Kakatiya dynasty. Presently, it is more of Police Outpost than Fort. The Fort is in quite deplorable condition. There is hardly much left for us to admire yet you will enjoy witnessing the historical structure standing over decades. There are number of gates in the Fort which one has to cross to reach the top. The view from the top of the Fort was breathtakingly beautiful. There is a Mosque at the top of the Fort, which was built by the Qutub Sahis.

We were exploring Medak Fort in the afternoon. The scorching heat of the sun was draining out our energy. We cut short our time here and decided to visit Medak Church.
Medak is primarily famous for its Cathedral. The Medak Cathedral sees over the Diocese of Medak, which is the single largest diocese in Asia and the second largest diocese in the world. The Cathedral is very beautiful. The gothic stone masonry architecture is worthy to be admired. The unique feature of this Church is that it has three long glass painted windows and you can find Lord Jesus by the magical illumination of these stained windows created by sunlight. Photography inside the Church is prohibited. How I wish I could show the world β the stories from the Holy Bible being depicted by the wonderful play of light and shadow on the Glass painted windows by sunlight! Having spent some peaceful time inside, we explored the Church surrounding. There is an adjoining garden, where we found people relaxing.

Having explored Medak Cathedral, we started our journey towards Pocharam Wildlife Sanctuary and Pocharam Dam. On reaching Pocharam Wildlife Sanctuary, we were told that only 4 wheelers are allowed inside the sanctuary for safety and security of the travelers. As we travelled on bikes, we were not allowed to venture into the Sanctuary. How I wish they arranged Safari for travelers like us! The Forest Department doesnβt have such facilities yet. We were disappointed. However, without wasting much time, we proceeded towards Pocharam Dam. It was around late afternoon we reached Pocharam Dam. The sun would set after sometime. The reflection of sunlight on the dam was beautiful! There was lush greenery on the one side and the other side was the dam. We sat there for a while and enjoyed scenery. We wanted to be back before dark so couldnβt afford to stay for long.

Before visiting Medak, I had done preliminary research on internet and read several travel blogs and had known about a haunted house by the Pocharam Dam. I was so eager to visit the haunted place. There was infact a double storied vacant building standing by the dam. No one could be seen near to it. Three of us went inside till the terrace and came down. Absolute vacant old desolate building standing by the Dam may make you feel like a haunted place but we didnβt really feel anything eerie about it. Probably because darkness didnβt hit the place yet. Thereafter, we rode back to our hotel. The view of illuminated town of Medak at night from the hillock was absolutely beautiful!

On the following day early morning, me and my hubby visited the Medak Fort once again. This time, we could explore the Fort with a much detailed eye. The coolness of the morning breeze was very refreshing and we loved trekking uphill till the top of the Fort once again.

We checked out from our hotel around 10am. Thereafter, we started our journey towards Singur Dam. Singur Dam is situated some 66 kms away from Medak town in Sangareddy at Medak District. As we proceeded near Singur Dam, the beauty of rural life fascinated us. Sometimes, it feels good to take a break from the cacophony of urban city life and relish the rural life. Finally we reached Singur Dam. The cool breeze was so very refreshing. Singur Dam serves as a source of drinking water to Hyderabad. I have read that the deep water of the reservoir is a home to crocodiles though couldnβt get any glimpse of it. The gigantic reservoirβs view coupled with the flora and fauna surrounding the Dam will captivate you by its beauty. Having spent some time, we went for lunch at adjoining Haritha Restaurant. Telangana Tourism has rightly built Haritha Hotel & Restaurant at prime tourist destinations.

Having done with our lunch, we spent some quality time near the bank of the Water reservoir and then started our journey way back home. Just as we started our journey, drizzling began. The drizzling just added to the charm of the journey! I was lost at the earthy scent produced by the rains on the muddy trail of rural India. The earthy fragrance completed my road trip with the sweetest note possible!
