I am travelling solo from Bangalore to Srikalahasti temple by Bus, which is located in the town of Srikalahasti, in Tirupati district in the state of Andhra Pradesh, to do Rahu Ketu Puja (Sarp Dosha) in the temple.
The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is famous for its Vayu Lingam (Wind Lingam), one of the Pancha Bhuta Sthalams, representing the wind. Lord Shiva in his aspect as Vayu is worshipped as Kalahasteeswara.
The above pic is the 2nd arch build on the road side/ entrance towards the Srikalahasti temple. From this arch, the distance will be around 1 km to Srikalahasti temple and 1 km around from the main high way where the buses stop. Either you can walk for around 2km to Srikalahasti temple or take a auto which will be available all the time.
This temple itself is a great architectural piece of art. Spending some time exploring the temple is of great experience.
You can watch the full detailed vlog of the Sri Kalahasti temple.
This beautiful Gopuram is placed in the opposite of the Gate no 2 of Srikalahasti temple. It has a small garden around with few benches to sit, however the grass on the lawn is soft and clean, people do sit under trees to take rest from the scorching heat.
This temple is famous for Rahu-Kethu pooja. It is believed that performing this pooja will ward the people from the astrological effects of Rahu and Kethu.
Pilgrims who plan for Rahu Ketu Pooja at Sri Kalahasti temple do not need to bring any Pooja materials along with them. The necessary materials will be provided to them at the time of buying the tickets at the counter.
