10 Things To do In Amsterdam

Getting there :

It's Quiet easy actually to find a cheap Flight for Amsterdam from Delhi/Mumbai/Bangalore. Keep a track on Skyscanner or Momondo with a time bracket of 3-4 months and you will get good deals. We didn't have any particular date on mind, hence with Skyscanner I got a really good deal, the tickets came around 38K up down per person.

1o Things to keep in mind when visiting Amsterdam :

Expense : Amsterdam is an expensive city. So book all your accommodations ahead. There are multiple options of airbnbs, couch surfing, hostels. So you can pick whichever suits your need . We were travelling in a group, hence thought of booking a hostel.

Our hostel - Stayokay was right next to Vondelpark. The next thing to avoid too much expenditure is : Take the breakfast deal given by your hostel. We paid 8 Euros ( approximately 620rs ) and stuffed ourself so much that it always became a brunch rather than a breakfast :P

Always take a travel pass. One of the tram driver was very kind to give us a good discount group deal. So WE paid 6 euros for a 3 days unlimited transportation pass. ( So always make a puppy face to the conductor, you might end up getting one :P )

2. Unpredictable weather :

It can literally rain at the drop of a hat. So never take the sky seriously. It might look so blue at one moment that you put on your white converse, but you come back with muddy abstract art on your white shoes. Seriously, this time no kidding. So be prepared with your raincoat/or quickly hop inside a cafe, as umbrellas don't work against the wind.

This city is best explored on foot or BICYCLES. They have orange line all over where if you mistakenly walk, be prepared to get lots of ugly stares from the passerby, on Bicycles. You can again rent your bicycles from your hostel/airbnb hosts. Apart from that Donkey Republic gives amazing deals on cycle rent.

5. Red Light Area :

The Historical Red light area is right at the centre of Amsterdam. It is unapologetically vibrant at night, with Erotic Shops selling adult accessories around, naked/half naked Girls doing sultry moves at the window. Yep, It is Legal and controlled by The Government.

6. Vondel park :

This place deserves a special mention. Go there in the early morning, to witness the vast greenery and some of the cutest bird species. ( Oh ! I spotted a black squirrel and a Picasso Fish sculpture too ) Tadaa !!

Yes, It might give you a solar system exhibit, if you can only recall what you learnt in your primary school. Jokes Apart, It will take you to an HIGHer altitude for sure. There are 3 types of them sold in Coffee Shops - Mellow High Cake, Happy High cake, Out of your sense Cake.

9. Boat Rides - There are total 2500 boat houses in Amsterdam to take the tour of the beautiful canals. The city is filled with canals and you can definitely have rides after getting the tickets from the boat houses.

10. Finally MY FAVOURITE ONE : Just Get Lost in the city and don't have a plan. Walk or cycle where the roads take you, have the roadside waffles and coffee and various cuisine the city has to offer. But Don't forget to keep an offline map of the city so that you don't get lost.
