How exciting this moment has been, really!! I have been waiting for a long time to visit the Attari Wagah Border and watch the Beating Retreat Ceremony. I m sure it's on many of your bucket lists as well to see what goes on the Border of India Pakistan and the Zero line.
Well, here is a small tour guide for you!
We planned on visiting Amritsar for 2 days and planned on going to the Attari Wagah Border on the 2nd day of our tour. If you go to the Golden Tenple around the noon, you will see a lot of auto walas calling you for Wagah Border. As Wagah Border is 32 KM from Amritsar, India, and 24 KM from Lahore in Pakistan. It's actually located a little closer to Pakistan than India. You can hop on a sharing auto or book a private taxi and go to the Wagah border, which will take you around 40 mins from Amritsar. Here is an advice leave as early as possible to avoid the traffic snarl in Amritsar, which gets pretty intense at times. You have to reach Wagah Border before 4 PM, so it would be best if you reach by 3.30 PM at them very most as you will have to walk more than a KM to reach the podium and find your seats. There are no tickets, so the seats are first come, first serve.
Before entering, you will go through a security check. It's best if you leave your bags and other stuff back in the car as it's not allowed inside. You can carry your phones inside as they encourage you to make videos and take photos of the parade performed by the BSF and the Pakistan Rangers.
During the parade, we got to see the BSF perform. The crowd would say Vande Mataram! from the bottom of their heart every now and then between the parade, and we would get goosebumps. That emotion of every Indian coming together and saying Vande Mataram! All together was really intense, what a proud moment for us 🇮🇳
The ladies from the crowd are invited to dance during the show, and it gets really fun. So ladies, if you are there, do join the party or you will regret it later.
After the show you can have dinner or snacks from the 'Shahi Qila', which is the first restaurant of India. It's pretty obvious it's the first as it's on the India Pakistan Border. You can also shop some souvenirs, click pics with the BSF Jawans, and tag them on their social media accounts of BSF PunJab Frontier.
All in all, this is a once in lifetime experience that every India must have.
