Overview.. It's an amazing trip to the border city. I took the Shatabdi Exp from New Delhi to Amritsar. There are many budget hotels for solo travellers near and away from railway station, the only issue is you have to search it carrying your backpack. I explored the streets in the daytime and tasted the local people's lifestyle. I took a shared taxi to Attari Border to watch the ceremony. I suggest if its weekend start by 2.30 pm from Amritsar. The event is one and only of its kind in India. It's a special feel to be there and witness. By 5.30 the event ends up and you can be back in the city by 6.15 pm. I visited Jallianwala Bagh after that. But I suggest you keep this schedule in the daytime so that after Wagah border you can directly step to Golden Temple by dusk. After Jallianwala Bagh I went to Golden Temple. Its a walkable distance from J Bagh. There you have every reason to enjoy the evening. That's the only place where I felt to stay few more minutes and few more minutes more in a religious place. The first sight of the temple will make you hold your breathe, stop and think "what an amazing place this is". Back to New Delhi I suggest the same train. I took a overnight bus as I didn't get a reservation.
