Made by two sculptors, Paul Landowski, a French sculptor and Gheorghe Leonida, a Romanian sculptor, Christ the Redeemer is located atop the 2,300 feet tall Corcovado mountain. Earlier, visitors had to climb 200 steep steps to reach the top, but in 2003, a series of escalators and elevators were installed to make the climb much easier. The statue was completed in 1936, and today it is visited by around two million visitors yearly.
