On a Friday evening, just after office, I had a whim- I wanted to stay at a heritage fort. A quick scroll on the internet and the lesser known Dadhikar Fort, in Alwar stole my attention. I booked a room and a train ticket for the next day- Saturday. This sudden plan and the experience thereafter would remain etched in my mind forever.

Where is Dadhikar Fort Located?

Dadhikar fort is located amidst the verdant hills of the Aravalis in the Alwar district of Rajasthan. It is said that King Chand of Abhaneri set up a camp here , after having lost everything to floods. This fort is now converted into a heritage hotel.

How to reach Dadhikar Fort?

You can book any train to Alwar from Delhi or Gurgaon and it takes just two to three hours to reach Alwar. I travelled from Gurgaon by the Ranikhet express. Hire an Auto from the Railway station itself which would drop you at the gates of the Dadhikar Fort.

Alternately, You can book a cab from Delhi to Alwar to Delhi andalso explore the places to visit in Alwar.

What to Expect at the Dadhikar Fort?

This fort, located amidst the Aravalis is decorated by keeping in mind the old world charm. The rooms are beautifully decorated to match the Rajasthani culture. In the evening there are arrangements for having snacks on the fort terrace while watch the golden sun set behind the hills. The Fort is located in a hidden place away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

The evenings at the Fort are designed to give the guests an immersive feel of the Rajasthani culture. The guests are welcomed at the terrace with loads and loads of flower petals. The evenings light up with Rajasthani dance performances , music and a huge array of dinner items.

The Perfect Itinerary

Exploring the Dadhikar Fort and Alwar from Delhi would just take a weekend. You can reach the fort on a Saturday morning, spend the entire day exploring the fort. Check out from the fort next morning after breakfast, visit the different sight seeing spots and return to Delhi/Gurgaon by 7-8pm in the evening. Join Office the next morning. Isn't that a perfect itinerary?

Places to visit near Dadhikar Fort

(1) Moosi Maharani ki Chhatri : Located at about 8.5km from the Dadhikar fort, the Moosi Maharani is chhatri is a monument built in the honour of Maharaja Bhaktawar Singh and his wife Moosi Maharani in the year 1815AD.This beautiful cenotaph built in red sandstone and white marble looks grand with the Aravalis in the backdrop.

(2) Sagar Lake : Located just at the back of the city palace and the Moosi Maharani ki Chhatri , Sagar Lake is considered to be a holy bathing ghat. Surrounded by numerous shrines and cenotaphs, this turquoise lake presents a beautiful sight to behold.

(3) Bala Quila : This fort is situated on the Aravalis, overlooking the Alwar city. This fort was built in the 15th century by Hasan Khan Mewati and has been under many dynasties since then.

(4) Siliserh Lake : This is a beautiful lake,located at about 13kms from the Alwar city. There are boating facilities available and a boat ride on the clear lake water provides a very beautiful experience.

(5) Alwar Museum and City Palace : The City palace is a 18th century magnificent fort built below the Bala quila. The lower floors are used as Government offices , while the upper floors are converted into a Museum.
