Aleppey, the famous destination for backwaters, boat houses. One could spend days adoring the life and culture here. I was so excited to explore this beautiful city as I have heard a lot about this place.
In Varkala I wasn't sure where to visit next, as whole kerala was new for me. After getting suggestions by some of my fellow traveler friends whom I met there, decided to visit this phenomenal city.
From Varkala there are various means available for reaching here,I would suggest to try train ride, it's a beautiful 3 hour journey, along the way you get to see Munroe Islands, various bridges with awesome views of lakes and forests comprises of dense pine trees.
Being backpacker I in general choose to stay in hostel, it's budget friendly and you meet other cool people. So I arrived at GoStops Aleppey, it was old building renovated beautifully to looks like modern and at the same time carrying the historical importance ,you can see at some parts of the building. So I spend my first day here completely as I had to work, but next day was holiday so I planned to explore Aleppey then.
Things to do in Aleppey
Aleppey is unique for providing beautiful backwater ride, either you can rent a small boat for exploring Vembanad lake or you can book your accomodation for whole day in big boat. Either way you gonna experience the beautiful shades of nature, it's gonna be worth it.
KAYAKING
It was in my bucket list to do Kayaking in Aleppey, on next day I was all really to enjoy this thrilling adventure. I was so excited about this that at around 5 AM I was all ready in my hostel even before my auto arrived 😅. I arrived at the boarding point in 15 minutes and after getting introductory class, went into water with my paddle and Kayak to conquer kollam - Kottapuram waterway channel and the famous narrow canals which are so famous here.
It was a beautiful 2 and half hour ride, I got to see sunrise while being at the centre of the channel,one of the best sunrise view I have ever had. You can see some of the photos below.
ALEPPEY BEACH
Spending evening here was another beautiful experience, we had music, windy breeze and all the people around us involved in their activities like students playing volleyball, children making sand houses and I was trying to play frisbee 😀. It was really fun. After having beautiful dinner with my new friends it was time to say goodbye to them and this beautiful city. At night I boarded my bus for next destination, excited to roam my next destination.
