We group of 4 freinds were looking for a weekend getaway, in November from Delhi, and after searching for several options, we decided to see the most ancient and larget Camel Fair which is organised every year at Pushkar Rajasthan,
It is also one of the largest cattle ,livestock and trade fair being held in India.
Note:- If visiting during camel fair book tickets and hotels beforehand as there is a huge demand for the train/bus tickets at that time.
We tried booking train tickets 2 months ahead, still couldn't get the train of our choice that leaves Delhi late at night.
We boarded Chetak Express, problem with this train is it reaches Ajmer by 2:00 AM which is too early, but we used this as an oportunity to visit Ajmer Sarif Dargah.
In the morning we took a Cab from Ajmer to our hotel in Pushkar.
We started our day from the camp were we stayed ,by visiting the mela grond in morning, if you are planning to photograph camels then start early as it get's very crowded very soon. We took several photographs of camels and other possessions that were being held.
During camel fair photographers from all over the world arrives to capture the essence of this great fair.
Apart from camels several other livestocks are available for trade in this fair, we can see well maintained Horses, Cow, Goats ,Sheep which are well decorated and charming to see.
So the best time to visit Pushkar is during the Fair, as this small town gets to its full glory, it is also called as Kartik Mela, as it is held in the Hindu calender month of Kartik, starts with start of Kartik months and ends with Kartik Purnima (full moon).
Pushkar is also famous for the only Lord Brahma Temple in world, situated on the banks of Pushkar Lake is ancient Brahma Temple.
On Second / last day of our trip we visited Savitri Temple , this temple is situated on a hill top, were we reached through ropeway, it was a good experience for us. On reaching temple it is very peacefull and from top you can get the full panoramic view of Pushkar and the whole fair ground and lake, view is breathtaking.
We returned back from Savitri temple and spent our day in Fair / Mela ground watching different activities and cultral events that were being organised by the Mela Organising committee.
The best part of this Fair is , tourism is being encouraged in Pushkar. Foreign tourist are most welcome in this fair, and one can see a large part of this fair is attended by foreigners.
There are several sports event that are being organised in the Fair ground for foreign tourist and they all are very well treated.
