Amdavad Ni Gufa
Amdavad Ni Gufa is an unorthodox yet charming art gallery in the heart of Ahmedabad. The art gallery was a collaborative effort of BV Doshi, an acclaimed Indian architect and MF Hussain, India's most colorful painter. Mindful of the city's unbearable summer heat, BV Doshi came up with the clever idea of creating a cool underground space. Hussain's bold strokes grace the concrete walls and ceilings, making it a perfect example of perma-art. You'll find Hussain's horses, tigers, and elephants here hiding amongst the quirkily asymmetrical pillars. Along with the wall murals, you'll get to see some interesting grill art--an iron iron grill with Hussain's trademark tiger ready to pounce.
Open: 4pm to 8pm
Zen Cafe
Abutting Amdavad Ni Gufa is a casual open-air dining establishment called Zen Cafe. From panini to pizza, the cafe serves up interesting snacking options for the foodies.USP: Shady trees, wooden tables, and an unobstructed view of the white-tiled roof of the cave gallery. Of course, the munchies and the ever popular cold coffee can't be beat. Zen Cafe is a self-serve operation. Prices are reasonable too. It's a perfect place to hangout with friends for hours--and all without breaking the bank.
