About the Falls

This mesmerizing waterfall is hidden in dense forests of the Western ghats and adjoining Agumbe ranges, the waterfall is the first fall of River Sita. But as they say, best things are not easily available. The falls can be reached only through a 2-km hike through the forest, making it an even thrilling experience. The trek route passes through the lush green forest till the banks of river Sita. In order to reach the falls, one has to wade through the waters of the stream and trek further for half a kilometre before the magnificent falls finally unravels themselves.

Just 2 hours drive from Udupi, Kudlu falls are on the way to Agumbe hills on the state highway 169A. The ride itself is a pleasing one, without the hustle of the traffic and totally in the midst of nature.

The falls are love at first sight. Why won't they be, for you witness water plunging from a height of 100 feet straight into a pond. As you stand there adulating the beauty of the place, a spectacle is served on your dish in the form a rainbow, right at the base of the falls, increasing the beauty of the falls.

The pond where the water drops is not very deep and visitors can walk straight to a point where one can stand right behind the falls. It is one of the best experiences to have a refreshing dip and swim in the pond. However, visitors to exercise caution as the water plunging from that height can make you feel as if a mechanical drill is piercing through your head. Otherwise the place is safe.

Apart from the scenic beauty of the waterfalls, the serene atmosphere of the region leaves a soothing effect on your mind and soul. The calm and tranquility found around the falls is disturbed only by the deafening and roaring thunder of the falls.

All Smiles and refreshed

Best Time to Visit Kudlu Falls

August to December is the best period of time to visit Kudlu Falls, as the volume of the falls is more during this time. However, the region is prone to flash floods during monsoons as the level of the river rises and the falls get cut-off from the base. Ideally, we prefer the time from October-December to be perfect for the visit.

Information for the Visitors

The falls are located deep in the forests and the visitor needs to get a pass from the Forest Office Check post. The entry fees are ₹50/- per person.

The falls are open on all days from 9.00 AM to 5.30 PM, but entry time is cut off at 4.00 PM.

There are no shops anywhere near the falls, so carry enough food and water that can last for the day. Also you need to submit the details of things you are carrying at the Forest Office Check Post, which is checked at the time of the exit. If you litter around the falls, be ready to pay hefty fine. It goes without saying, you should not litter anywhere. Washroom is available at the Check point only.

That's all about this mighty and magnificent Kudlu Teertha Falls. Do take a detour and visit this hidden gem if you are in the area. You do not want to miss out on one of Karnataka's most beautiful and most pristine waterfalls.
