North East India is the most neglected part of India and under-explored. So there’s a lot of hidden gems present throughout. And thanks for the ignorance though, because of that these places are still serene.
I’m trying to describe one of those which I’ve been into, on the winter of 2019.
This travel destination is a tropical rainforest with a river of it’s hilly course, piercing through the dense forest. It can be defined as the domestic feel of Amazon. There’s also some mysterious stories are popular among locals, which are add on thrills.
• Location : The forest and the river creek is known as Chhabimura or Devatamura.
Situated in the Gomati District of Tripura. The Gomati river of Tripura pierces through the Devatamura hills during it’s upper course, left behind this picturesque dense forest area.
Nearest locality town is Amarpur, 13 km away from the start point of boat safari.
• Best Season to Visit : Winter is the ideal season to visit for pleasant weather.
It’s advisable to avoid Monsoon because of heavy rainfall in the locality and high turbulent water level of Gomati River.
It’s an ideal day trip based on Amarpur or Udaipur Tripura.
The whole safari takes nearly 2-3 hours.
Hand pulled traditional wooden boat and modern speed boat both options are available to reserve. It’s advisable to visit on group of 6-10 people.
It takes around 30 mint in speed boat to reach the first point.
In that first 30 minutes the boat goes through the high up walls of hills on both side with dense vegetations on it. If the bot machine is kept off there’s no noise, except for the gushing sound of river stream, the sound of leaves in air movement and the chirping of birds. The air is so fresh and light.
On the gateway there’s hill cravings of Hindu god and goddesses, which is significant in regional beliefs and the creator is unknown.
It’s believed that there’s many carvings which are undiscovered because of the dense forest on hills. And due to some mythical beliefs the locals don’t even dare to uncover those.
The first point is a big stone carved statue of Hindu goddess, likely to be devi Durga. Local worships this and it’s believed that no one can climb the rock above her idol and it’s guarded by poisonous snakes.
The second point is a limestone cave. For which we had to get down from our speedboat and guided trek of somewhat almost 1 km amidst the dense forest and small hilly stream. The way was too uneven and slippery with mud.
Finally we reached the small cave. This cave is mysterious. It’s believed that huge amount of gold and other gems are hidden inside with a dangerous guard which no one could ever unveil. Some says that this is the way to go to heaven, the god uses this way to communicate with earth, hence the cave is inaccessible after certain point and the place is known as Devatamura( mura- hills, devata- god , hills of god) .
After completing our second point we followed the same river path and went back to the point where we started.
The whole safari took around 2.5 hours to complete.
He’s some important info~
• Amenities : One restaurant present on the Chhabimura safari starting point which serves local food. No rest house, stays present.
• Stays and access : Chhabimura is an ideal day trip which can be covered easily from Udaipur and Amarpur.Even from Agartala.
There’s government accommodations in Amarpur ( Sagarika Paryatan Nivas ) can be booked online. No other stay option is available in Amarpur. There’s much options present in Udaipur, Matabari (25 km from amarpur) and Agartala. (85 km away)
The road is hilly and very narrow from Amarpur to Chhabimura safari starting point, so only private car can reach there.
The boat reservation costs around ₹1500 for the speed one and ₹1000 for the wooden one.
There’s government price chart for per head tourist ticket for boat ride. But due to very few tourists footfall it’s better to reserve one boat than waiting for other group to arrive.
Thank you.
