Penning this blog post after what feels like an eternity has ignited memories of a time when I envisioned meticulously capturing every aspect of my adventures.
Balancing travel, a full-time job, and maintaining a written blog post alongside a visual blog often felt like an overwhelming challenge. Got some free time on my hands last weekend and penned down my memories from one of my favourite trips this year!
I spent 5 beautiful days in the north African country of Morocco that left me utterly amazed as I immersed myself in their captivating culture, way of life, and delectable cuisine! This blog is however going to focus on Marrakech, a city like no other.
Things to do in Marrakech
Enjoy Moroccan Cuisine
Marrakech boasts a delightful array of restaurants, offering both traditional and fusion cuisines!
Atay Cafe
This hidden gem we discovered while wandering through the Marrakech medinas deserves the top spot for its exceptional food and charming ambiance. Surprisingly, it turned out to be one of the most popular cafes, and we felt fortunate to stumble upon it.
Cafe Al Baraka
Offering a more upscale experience with live music and dancers to keep you entertained, this place scores high on ambiance! While the food wasn't the absolute best we've had so far along the trip, the overall experience was still worth it.
Stay in a beautiful Riad
Opting for accommodation in a traditional Riad offers the perfect opportunity to marvel at the mesmerizing Moroccan architecture. From the exterior, they exhibit a simple sandy color with basic design elements. However, upon stepping inside, a whole new world of exquisite details awaits. The most beautiful breakfast spread was laid right outside our room every morning.
Ben Youssef Madrassa
Step into a realm of breath-taking symmetry and elaborately designed mosaics as you venture into the historical Ben Youssef Madrassa. Once the largest Islamic college in Morocco and situated close to the medina. Take your time to appreciate the magnificent Moroccan architecture, with special focus on the awe-inspiring interior terrace, gracefully centered around a serene pool.
The Bahia Palace
A remarkable edifice boasting 150 rooms! Most beautiful & traditional Moroccan architecture adorn the courtyards with orange trees and fountains. Felt like I was walking through a fairytale of my own. (Except, it was packed on a weekend as tourists flock all-through the summer months in Morocco)
Jamaa El Fnaa
The best part about the main square of Marrakech is that it comes to life at night!
As night falls, the square awakens with flute players, dancers, and talented artists showcasing their skills amidst the shimmering lights of the stalls. This captivating display of Moroccan culture is an unmissable experience!
Explore and wander in the Medina & Souk
All the action in Marrakech unfolds amid the vibrant hustle and bustle of the Medina, the city's oldest and walled part. Dedicate a day to immersing yourself in the enchanting ambiance, as you embrace the sounds, aromas, and sights of this remarkable area, exploring the bustling souks and lively squares.
I highly enjoyed surrendering to the thrill, wandering through the bustling excitement, navigating past donkeys and carts!
Last but not the least of all the amazing places to visit here (and the one I did not get to enter!)
Jardin Majorelle
A stunning vivid blue residence, stands as one of Marrakech's most prominent tourist destinations, an essential visit for all. The captivating house and gardens were initially conceived by Jaques Majorelle, the mastermind behind the mesmerizing deep blue hue now famously known as 'Majorelle blue.' Make sure you pre-book your tickets as this one sells out real fast!
If you are looking for a sign to visit Morocco, this is your chance!
