Lemosho is regarded as the most beautiful route on Kilimanjaro as it offers panoramic views of various sides of the mountain. It features all the benefit, offering, and success ratio of Machame Route by starting further round to the West. This route leads you over the spectacular Shira Plateau and avoids the crowds on the early part of the Machame Route at the same time. The extra day on this 8 day tour gives you the opportunity to better acclimatize, thus increasing your chances of reaching the top.
Day 1 Airport Pick-Up - Drop Off At Hotel
You will be picked up by the staff of Jerry Tanzania Tours from Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) and driven to your hotel in Moshi. In the evening your guides will meet you at the hotel to brief you on your upcoming trek and do an equipment check to make sure you have all the necessary mountain gear. Gear which is missing can be rented on this day.
Day 2 Moshi – Londorossi Gate To Mti Mkubwa Camp
After an early breakfast (08.00 a.m.), we will leave the hotel one hour later to arrive at the Londorossi Gate for registration around 12.00 p.m., and in time to have our picnic lunch. After Londorossi, we will have a short drive to the start-point of today’s walk. Today our walk is a distance of 7 kilometres, with an expected 3 to 4 hours of walking time.

Day 3 From Mti Mkubwa Camp To Shira Camp 1
As you walk along the thin trail through the rainforest, you will notice the vegetation becoming scarcer and scarcer until you finally reach moorland filled with Lobelia and Eric plants. Ascending through rolling hills, you will reach Shira Camp 1 in about 4-5 hours. Looking over the Shira Plateau from your camp you will be able to see the unmistakable snow-capped summit of Kibo. A hearty evening meal and a last glimpse at the starry sky will bring the day to a close.

Day 4 From Shira Camp 1 To Shira Camp 2
After breakfast you continue your trek, which today will be less tiring than the day before. You will cross Shira Ridge which will allows for great views of the Rift Valley and Mt Meru. The ever changing landscape will again surprise you with a different terrain, you will walk on ground where lava once flowed. You will also pass the big Senecien that can grow to more or less 9 meters in height. Shira Camp 2 will be your destination for the night at (3,850 metres), 240 metres more than night before.

Day 5 From Shira Camp 2 To Barranco Camp, By Way Of Lava Tower
After breakfast you will start your walk up to Lava Tower with a long ascent above the Shira Plateau. You will climb quite a bit in altitude, roughly 750 metres. You will have a rest here before descending again. This is a so called acclimatizing day, where you will climb high but sleep low, giving you a good idea of how your body reacts to altitude. The landscape will once again change as you pass through the Barranco Valley with its big Senecias and smaller Lobelia plants. After a long 7 – 8 hours you will reach your beautiful camp for the night the Barranco Camp. The crew will be there waiting with a well deserve evening meal before settling in for the night.

Day 6 From Barranco Camp To Karanga Camp
Straight after breakfast you will make your way up the famous Barranco Wall. This is most probably the steepest part of the entire route. Safety is very important to us so please follow the guideline of your guides who will get you to the top safely. You might have to use your hands every now and then to get a better grip but rest assured there are no alpine climbing passages. Once at the top you will walk along the mountain ridge and if the weather allows you will have a great view of the southern glacier of Kibo as the Kibo summit. After 3 – 4 hours you will reach Karanga Camp for your overnight.

Day 7 From Karanga Camp To Barafu Camp
Awakening to the sunlight dancing off the Kibo Summit, you will enjoy a hearty breakfast before setting out to today’s destination – Barafu Camp. Most of the day will be spent walking through very dry desertic terrain, with Kibo ever present on your left side. After 3-4 hours you will reach Barafu Camp, where you will have an early dinner and overnight as the highlight of your trip is only a few short hours away.

Day 8 From Barafu Camp To Summit At Uhuru Peak, Descent To Mweka Camp
Your day will start early at 12:00 a.m., after hot tea and biscuits you will start your 5-7 hours walk to Stella Point along the crater rim. Here you will have a short rest if necessary before continuing another 1-2 hours to reach the highlight of the trip the Uhuru Peak (5,895 metres). This is truly a once in a lifetime experience as you stand at the top of Africa watching the sunrise light up the surrounding summits and landscape. After taking much needed pictures you will make your way down back to Barafu Camp for a 1-2 hours rest. Once everyone is well rested you will continue down to Mweka Camp (3,100 metres), an approx. 3 hours walk. The rest of the evening is yours to relax, you will have a nice evening meal and a good night’s sleep.

Day 9 Descent From Mweka Camp To Mweka Gate – Moshi
The final leg of your amazing adventure begins after breakfast with a traditional farewell Ceremony from the mountain crew. Then a gentle 3 to 4 hours’ descent through the rainforest continues to Mweka Gate, where your driver will be waiting for you. He will take you back to the hotel in Moshi and after a warm shower, the rest of the day is free to rest, relax at the pool or celebrate your achievement. - Elevation: From 3,100 metres to 1,640 metres
