The bush fires that continue to run havoc in Australia haven't relented yet and the brutal forces of nature continue their wrath, this time in the UAE, a global hotspot for tourism and business. According to reports, heavy rains, thunderstorms, and the resulting flash floods in some parts of the country threw life out of gear this weekend. People could be seen wading through knee-high water that got accumulated on the streets in some parts of Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
The National Centre of Meteorology, the meteorological authority in the country issued red alerts, urging people to exercise extreme caution while driving and being outdoors.
While it had been raining in the UAE the entire week, a sudden torrent of rain lashed some of its cities on Friday, causing major flooding. This forced the authorities to close many roads in and around Dubai. Hailstorms reportedly slammed the western region of Abu Dhabi’s desert and seas remained extremely rough and windy.
Such was the impact of the weather that Shindagha Days, the popular 10-day cultural festival that was supposed to take place at Dubai Creek, was also abandoned on Friday.
According to recent reports by local news agencies, the rough weather will continue to affect the region with strong winds reducing visibility levels to 'poor'.
